Reading: Psalm 24:1-6 (NLT)

The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it. The world and all its people belong to him. For he laid the earth’s foundation on the seas and built it on the ocean depths.

Who may climb the mountain of the Lord? Who may stand in his holy place?

Do We Expect God to Answer Prayer?

Spaces of Beauty, Grace, Prayer, and Mercy

“Everyone is a genius at least once a year. The real geniuses simply have their bright ideas closer together.” – Georg C. Lichtenberg
(BrainyQuote)

The word of the day, from Dictionary.com, is zoogenic, which means, “produced or caused by animals.”

Today is Blueberry Cheesecake Day. I don’t know that I’ve ever had blueberry cheesecake. I’ve had strawberry cheesecake. I’ve had blueberry pancakes. Great. Now I’m hungry.

We had a very nice prayer gathering last night. There were five of us (seven if you count a couple of children, but I don’t think they prayed with us . . . you never know for sure, though, do you?), including our pastor, who shared a few words about prayer with us. We prayed for each other for a little while, which is always how we begin, and then we prayed over a prayer topic that I had…

On Choosing to Suffer

Spaces of Beauty, Grace, Prayer, and Mercy

Today is Wednesday, August 10, 2016. Nine more days until S turns 23!

Quote of the Day

“It’s like deja-vu, all over again.” – Yogi Berra

Word of the Day

Titivate – to make smart or spruce: She titivated her old dress with a new belt.

Today is Duran Duran Appreciation Day. What can I say about that? I like a little Duran Duran every now and then, so here you go.

Well, it’s “Hump Day” today. It’s the middle of the work week (for some people), and we tend to perceive of the rest of the week being downhill. I’m not sure that’s accurate. I can’t decide if I agree with that or if Monday is Hump Day and the rest of the week is downhill from there. Sometimes it seems like it’s all uphill until Friday afternoon. However, more and more, the older I get, the more…

Get Your Wisdom and Counsel from Heaven

The JSP Journal

2 Samuel 5:19

“So David inquired of the LORD, “Shall I go and attack the Philistines? Will you deliver them into my hands?” The LORD answered him, “Go, for I will surely deliver the Philistines into your hands.”

This one phrase “So David inquired of the LORD”  tells us all we need to know about the character of the man. David was a man of war who received his marching orders from heaven. The Scriptures tell us that he had valiant skilled fighting men, who could offer solid counsel in times of war. David was always open to insight, but he valued the counsel from above most of all. Long before Jesus taught his disciples how to pray, David was praying for God’s will to be done on earth as it is in heaven.

The secret to David’s success is found in his willingness to inquire of the Lord for His counsel, before making his decisions…

Stirring Each Other Up

This Day With God - A Spiritual Journey

Paul and his party left Ephesus and headed to Tyre. In Acts 21:1-6, we are told that as soon as they landed from the voyage that had lasted about a week, Paul set out immediately to seek a Bible teaching church.

As we live out each day, we can take this lesson of actively seeking out other Christians at the place where we work, in our neighborhood, or at the school we attend. With the Internet, we can also seek out other Christian blogs and take every opportunity to learn from each other.

Many times, I eat lunch at work with a group of guys that sit together and on this one occasion, a fellow employee was asking some questions he had about God’s Word.  I was able to share some of my thoughts and give him the link to this blog.

In today’s passage, Paul was head set…

God: The Focus of Our Life

Faith Overflow

As i sat outside today looking at the sky, painted a beautiful shade of colors, i become overwhelmed with awe. How is it that a God capable of making something SO lovely is the same God who loves me. He is the same God who longs to spend time with me each day and has an abundant care for me. The same God who created the heavens and the earth , the same God who has the power to heal sickness, the same amazing God who could walk on what, is reaching out for me ; wanting a relationship.

Although i am reminded daily of his amazing qualities and everything he is capable of doing, i am often being pulled away with the friendship i could have with him. Why is that?

In our generation, we are frequently distracted by worldly things; such as relationships, media, and our hobbies. We…

He makes me lie down

flowersontherubbishheap

I met with my best friends yesterday. I have been unwilling to let go of resentment. As a result I have suffered spiritually. The wonderful thing about close Christian friends is that they can admonish with love. I needed that yesterday, and as they quietly challenged me about something unwise, I felt convicted. We meet in a coffee shop and then go and pray in the car. This is our pattern. As we walked to the car we were reflecting on psalm 23. Our shepherd King makes us lie down in green pastures and even uses his rod to enable us to do it. For me, this picture is so wonderful. God disciplines us. We see hurt and cruelty in it, and yet if we saw it from God’s perspective he is driving us from brown parched land, to lush green pastures, where the quiet waters are.

So as we…
