Still with the Noah stories, it’s interesting to read how similar flood stories occur in other religious texts – the symbolism of washing the world clean is something one can imagine is an ancient thing. The Mesopotamian Epic of Gilgamesh is one of the most ancient stories to be recorded and contains a legend very close to the Noah story (2500BC). I’ve only peeked into Wikipedia so far (or I’ll never get this bible finished!), so apologies, but there are some 20 or so versions cited on there alone. (I know one should never trust Wikipedia etc, but it’s always a very good place to start!)
